Hi there. We’re the Scotts. I’m Joanna or Coach Jo. My husband Nick and I were both born and raised right here in Springfield. Although our grandparents were neighbors, we didn’t actually meet until just after college when our teams squared off in the adult recreational league at Lake Country. He’s a keeper. I’m a striker. It was love at first goal. And that was the start of this soccer loving family!
Nick’s a developer by trade, but a soccer enthusiast by heart. For the last 7+ years he’s been coaching players from age 2 through high school. While he coaches teams of all ages, he specializes in goalkeeper training.
In addition to a love of playing soccer, I also hold an M.S. in Sport and Exercise Science from the University of Northern Colorado and 12+ years of experience in sport administration and coaching. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to learn from many mentors and organizations who are doing it right. Along the journey I discovered HappyFeet. Their unique approach combining child development and soccer knowledge to engage the youngest players in a way that activates a child’s imagination and teaches real soccer skills caught my attention. I spent three years working as the Springfield HappyFeet Director. As the program grew, I learned more about the next step in the HappyFeet progression, Legends Soccer Training. The coaching philosophy in the Legends program truly creates an environment that develops deceptive dribblers, educated risk takers, and resilient leaders. Although my journey of career and starting a family took me on to other adventures the HappyFeet Legends program has left an imprint on my life.
When we welcomed a rambunctious little girl into the world, just like so many other parents, we found ourselves looking for the best programs to help her fall in love with activities today while giving her the foundation to be a skillful player in the future! When it came time for Indy to try her first soccer class, we found ourselves back at HappyFeet, this time as parents. I found myself just as impressed with the approach and philosophy. That’s why in 2023 when the Springfield location became available, without hesitation we were ready to jump back on the field as owners. Our family is committed to bringing a program to the community that introduces soccer in a way that opens up doors of possibility for young kids both on the field and off. We are committed to developing Brave, Creative, Leaders for Life!
HappyFeet Founder, Andy Barney, was born in Oxford, England and was raised in a soccer-rich family with two generations rooted in professional soccer. Andy came to the USA and spent all of his adult life developing a coaching philosophy that focuses on developing
"Brave, Creative, Leaders for Life!"
HappyFeet originated in 1988 in Kansas City when running coaching sessions for 3, 4, & 5 year old children. Andy thought teaching soccer to this age would be easy. After 6 stressful back-to-back, one-hour lessons, Andy quickly realized that an educational curriculum sensitive to the needs of young children needed to be developed. It was here the "Story Time with a Soccer Ball" approach was created. Today HappyFeet is operated in over 100 locations both in the USA and internationally.
The HappyFeet program serves as an introductory soccer experience to Legends Soccer Training and many of it's developmental soccer concepts have been derived from that coaching philosophy. The hallmark of Legends Training is superb individual skill, notably deceptive dribbling and goal scoring.
Legends Soccer was founded with the mission to develop Brave Creative Leaders through the wonderful game of soccer. Our goal is to help our players become deceptive dribblers and legendary finishers on the field, while learning how to overcome obstacles and make decisions under pressure to succeed at any challenge both on and off the field.
